During a visit to Melbourne recently, Srilal Miththapala made a presentation on the Conservation of the Sri Lanka Elephant to the Ceylon Society of Australia Melbourne Chapter on 23 March.
The talk was well attended by a large gathering of interested Sri Lankans living in Melbourne, where Srilal outlined the current status and demographics of the Sri Lankan elephant in the wild, and the problems related to the ongoing human-elephant conflict.
He also discussed at length, the challenges that are faced in trying to mitigate the problems where three to four wild elephants die in Sri Lanka on average per week, due to altercations with people.
A very long and lively questions and answer session took place after the talk, which ended with refreshments and fellowship.
