‘Sinha Wise’ is a one-of-a-kind collaboration by some of the star cricketers and singers in the country – Dinesh Chandimal, Chamara Kapugedara, Milinda Siriwardana, Dushmantha Chameera, Dasun Shanaka, Kithruwan Withanage, Madawa Warnapura, Niroshan Dickwella, Nadini Premadasa, Raini, Funky Dirt, Lantra of The Doctor Band and Yashan.
The song was produced by Yashan and the music was directed by Shenal Maddumage, while Sandun Perera compiled the lyrics. The music video was directed by Gamini Chamara and edited by Upul Chandana at Digital Eye Studios.
“‘Sinha Wise’ was produced to uplift the enthusiasm and spirits of the players and also the fans of Sri Lanka Cricket,” Yashan said. “It was filmed in two locations, we did the main scenes on a set at The Leaf, Nugegoda and the rest at Shenal’s recording studio at Police Park, Thunmulla.”
So why were cricketers included in this song? “Well, we have seen so many cricket songs by musicians over the years but we have never seen cricketers signing on the mic. So I thought of going that extra mile to make the difference by adding the singing talent of our very own cricket heroes. Honestly I knew it from the very beginning that it would be a big challenge to get them all together in one song, but most of the cricketers loved the idea and they really did put in their maximum effort on this,” explained Yashan.
Yashan and Shenal worked on it since last year. “I explained my idea to him and asked him to come with a catchy beat with a simple tune so that anyone could easily get on with it and be a part of it. I think it took about three months for us to complete the audio and video.”
The hard work has paid off, with some great feedback for ‘Sinha Wise’. “It’s been great. Absolutely amazing. We as musicians have experienced this kind of feedback before but it’s a new and a different experience for cricketers. I mean they receive comments for their musical talent on this and all of them are overjoyed and their spirits are really high. That’s exactly what I wanted to do by featuring them and I am pretty sure that they will rock India at the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.”
Commenting on the experience of recording the song and filming the video, Yashan said that apart from Madawa Warnapura (for whom Yashan has already produced a solo track ‘Muthu Paradana’), it was the very first time for all of the other cricketers on the mic. “But they did a fantastic job! Their passion and commitment towards this project was so high despite the fact that they had practices and matches almost every day.”
Wrapping up, Yashan said: “I’m grateful for Dr. Namal Balachandra of Wills Design for his exclusive outfits for the video and for all his support and also to Vimukthi Dharshana for making arrangements of doing a set design in double quick time. Most importantly I would like to appreciate and thank all the cricketers and musicians who featured on this to make it successful.”
