‘Sunsilk Hair Experts’ in Bandarawela unlocking career opportunities for Woman Entrepreneurs

The latest hair care workshops organized by Sunsilk under its much acclaimed ‘Sunsilk Hair Experts’ program was conducted in Bandarawela recently amidst a participation of more than 70 regional beauticians and over 3,500 visitors from the surrounding areas.  

Sunsilk, the premier hair care brand of Unilever Sri Lanka, commenced its annual quest to empower the rural women of Sri Lanka with self-employment opportunities a month ago from Embilipitiya and this was the 10th consecutive year the series of workshops are being carried out by the brand. The next 2 workshops will take place on 15th and 29th in Polonnaruwa and Galle, respectively.

At the workshop in Bandarawela, Sunsilk together with The Professional Hairdressers and Beauticians Association- PHABA, the project partner delivered knowledge and insights about hair care & treatment, skin care, beauty therapy and grooming with the support of leading hairdressers and beauticians.

Wathsala Aluthgedera, Category Head, Hair Care said, “as a  leading hair care brand, Sunsilk takes pride in touching and turning-around the lives of micro-entrepreneurs in rural areas such as Bandarawela, where they face many geographical and financial limitations while trying to access professional knowledge of Hair and beauty care.” She also mentioned that Sunsilk Hair Experts 2012 is all about creating aspirations and paving the way for ambitious young women to embark on a fulfilling and lucrative career path filled with glamour, beauty and rewards.  

In addition to the training sessions, the ‘Sunsilk Hedakari’ competition, conducted for aspiring young girls to become models, saw the participation of more than 80 girls from Bandarawela and rural suburbs. Talking about this experience one contestant said, “We hardly get these kinds of forums to showcase our talents. At workshops like these we not only get opportunities but the valuable insights to conduct ourselves in a professional manner.”

Jude Martino, Brand Manager, Sunsilk describing the value additions of the workshop said, “out of the competitors, 04 lucky winners were given scholarships to follow training in hair care and beauty culture at the prestigious Ramani Fernando - Sunsilk Hair & Beauty Academy. In addition, they will be selected to showcase their creative prowess at a grand hair show that will take place in August.”
