Talking Horns to tour Sri Lanka in October

Four men, a little wood, a lot of brass – and a whole arsenal of multifarious percussion instruments. This October, Talking Horns will enchant and entertain Sri Lanka with musical stories from their past, present and future told in their own eloquent musical diction. Talking Horns will work, jam and perform together with traditional ritual low country musicians from the Raigama tradition as well as Parai folk drummers from Mullaitivu district. The Goethe Institut will facilitate a string of performances in Colombo and Jaffna to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Germany. The Talking Horns are brought to Sri Lanka with the kind assistance of Auswaertiges Amt- the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. Performances will take place as follows: 2 October: Guest Performance at Qbaa, #2, de Fonseka Road, Colombo 4. 22:00 onwards; Rs. 1,000 LKR (minimum). For the Talking Horns, Jazz is a universal language, one that speaks to the hearts of all. On Wednesday 2 October they will give a short preview of their Sri Lanka tour and jam with Colombo’s Ateam at Qbaa 6 October: Street Festival. 60 years of Sri Lankan-German relations at Green Path (Nelum Pokuna Mw), Colombo 7; 15:00 – 21:00; free entry. At the street festival they will tell Sri Lankan-German tales together with traditional folk drummers of Bali and Parai traditions. 6 October: Guest Performance at Jazz Unlimited. CR & FC, Malalasekara Mw, Colombo 7; 17:00; Tickets Rs. 500. Jazz Unlimited is Colombo’s monthly Sunday outdoor gathering of jazz aficionados across all generations 8 October: Jaffna College, Vaddukodai; 10:00; free entry; students only. The four men take the students one of South Asia’s first schools on a virtuoso musical voyage from free jazz to New Orleans with stopovers at swing and bebop. 8 October: Main Concert. Jaffna University, Thiruneveli, Jaffna; 16:30; free entry. Talking Horns and four traditional Sri Lankan drummers are taking their musical language to the people of Jaffna. 9 October: St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna; 11.30-12.30; free entry; students only. The four men take the students of PASCH-school St. Patrick’s College on a virtuoso musical voyage from free jazz to New Orleans with stopovers at swing and bebop.
