The days when it was the Colombo Museum

The National Museum – originally known as the Colombo Museum – is 135 years old. It was founded by British Governor, Sir William Gregory (1872-1877), considered one of the ablest and most enlightened men to hold the office. The setting up of the museum was just one of many tasks he undertook.
