After Theatre Junction’s successful productions ‘Time and Motion’ in 2012 and ‘Dead Man’s Cellphone’ in 2013, Theatre Junction is once again offering something different to the platform of theatre in Colombo with their upcoming production ‘The Last Five Years,’ a musical by Jason Robert Brown. This award-winning musical focuses on the five year relationship between Jamie, a successful writer and Cathy, a struggling actress trying to balance the challenges of life and love in New York City. Told both forward and backward in time, it brings to life the very realistic issues couples face in today’s world, from struggling to achieve professional success to finding, and staying, in love. This production is unlike most musical productions, featuring only two actors and is fashioned in the style of a song cycle. The production will feature Asitha Tennekoon in the role of Jamie and Anushka Senanayake in the role of Cathy. Natasha Senanayake serves as the music director and this production also brings together Colombo’s most renowned young musicians including Eshantha Peiris, Isaac Smith, Sarani Perera, Savini Chandrasinghe, and Sachiththa Fernando. ‘The Last Five Years’ directed by Anushka Senanayake went on the boards at the Lionel Wendt yesterday and is also on today, 5 July.
