LEADS has been responding to the needs of Sri Lankan communities for over 35 years – from the devastating cyclone on the east coast in 1978, through the despair of the 1983 ethnic riots, the destruction of the 2004 Tsunami and assisting with rehabilitation and resettlement at the end of the traumatic 30 year civil war.

LEADS is a community development organisation passionate and committed about reaching the most vulnerable and most needy among our people. LEADS’ work covers 13 districts in Sri Lanka. With a staff of over 80 dedicated individuals, LEADS’ area of work covers community development, crisis and child protection. This includes livelihood development, relief and reconstruction, prevention of child abuse and rehabilitation and disaster response and mitigation.

In addition to community development activities, in 1995, LEADS took an important step in forming ESCAPE, its child protection division, to combat the increasing incidence of cases of child sexual abuse in the country. ESCAPE, together with other agencies working in this field, advocated for and facilitated the inauguration of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA).

Open Day –

 Saturday 20 June

LEADS is very keen to work with local organisations and people willing to give themselves and their time, to help to serve the needy in our communities.

In order to increase awareness of who they are and what they do, the management and staff of LEADS hosted an ‘Open Day’ on Tuesday, 9 June. Visitors were provided with a brief introduction to LEADS after which they were guided through an exhibition hall which showcased opportunities to volunteer with LEADS’ work. The stalls, manned by staff provided information on opportunities in education, ICT and research, therapy and counselling for children, livelihood, event planning and media/communication/publications.

Based on the positive response received from the public and requests for the event to be held on a weekend, LEADS will be hosting another ‘Open Day’ on Saturday 20 June, from 5-8 p.m. at the LEADS Head Office at No 25, Hospital Road, Dehiwela. This is an open invitation for all; as individuals or as representatives of organisations, to meet them and gain an insight into LEADS’ work in Community Development and Child Protection (ESCAPE).

They hope to develop successful partnerships through this either by linking with organisations through CSR projects or with individuals who have the heart for helping those in need.

Please come, join them, share your skills and gain immense satisfaction from this partnership.
