WNPS lecture on ‘Key Biodiversity Areas of Sri Lanka’ this Thursday

The Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka’s lecture for January will feature Prof. Devaka Weerakoon, speaking on ‘Key Biodiversity Areas of Sri Lanka’.
Prof. Weerakoon graduated from the University of Colombo in 1985 with a major in Zoology. He received a Fulbright Scholarship in 1999 to study in the USA, where he completed his MSc. and PhD. at Illinois State University.
In 1995 he returned the University of Colombo and worked as a conservation biologist. He was also technical advisor for the Red Listing program of Sri Lanka from 1996 to date.
At present he also serves as the technical advisor for the Ministry of Environment on conservation of threatened species in Sri Lanka. He has also worked as a consultant to the Department of Wildlife Conservation where he has provided technical support for preparation and implementation of protected area management plans, managing alien invasive species in protected area, habitat mapping, prptected area gap analysis, and conducting bird surveys. He has also worked as a consultant to several Government departments of Sri Lanka.
The lecture will be held on 16 January at 6:15 p.m. at the Department of Meteorology Auditorium, 383, Bauddhaloka Road, Colombo 7 (opposite BMICH). Entrance is free.
