The Wildlife & Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka monthly lecture for February is titled ‘Wilpattu’ and will be delivered by Kithsiri Gunawardena on Thursday 19 February at 6:15 p.m.
Kithsiri Gunawardena is an Attorney-at-Law holding a key management position in the LOLC Group. Most of his free time is spent pursuing his lifelong passion of studying and documenting the rich biodiversity of the island. Kithsiri is also the Joint Secretary of the Ceylon Bird Club as well as the Joint Editor of its monthly journal, the Ceylon Bird Club Notes.
In May 2009, with peace returning to the country he started to regularly visit Wilpattu National Park to photograph/document the many species of fauna and flora that are found in the park. His study of the park includes a study of the leopards by identifying individual leopards based on their spot/rosette patterns and keeping records of the locations of their sightings.
His presentation will include his ongoing study of the leopards of Wilpattu as well as interesting records of flora and fauna recorded from the park such as wild flowers and wild orchids.
The lecture will delivered at the Department of Meteorology Auditorium, 383, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 (opposite BMICH). All are welcome and entrance is free.
