At a special discussion held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation to maximize revenue generation from sunken and derelict vessels, it was revealed that as many as 47 such vessels have sunk and capsized in Sri Lanka's territorial waters. Instructions were issued to take maximum benefit from these vessels to local economy and to preserve such in view of archeological importance if necessary.
