The purpose of academia is essentially to produce people whose knowledge is of practical purpose although rooted in solid theory
The concept of ‘harmony’ of a nation has many vicissitudes and facets. It should ideally take into account all these dimensions for a society to thrive peacefully, happily and in abundance.
To move Sri Lankan society in this direction is the aim of the 1st International Conference on Harmony and Reconciliation 2023 (ICHR 2023) on 19 and 20 January 2023 which will be hosted by the Harmony Centre, University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka embracing the theme of ‘Harmony and Development through Knowledge and Innovation towards Nation Building’. We believe that the purpose of academia is essentially to produce people whose knowledge is of practical purpose although rooted in solid theory. Hence we have modelled this conference to have very strong practical connotations concerning national unity and productivity of Sri Lanka and all unity people. Hence, we have diverse follow up events linked to this event which will occur throughout the year.
Although the main focus of the conference is concerning Sri Lanka, academic papers and case studies related to global examples could also be submitted for consideration.
The conference will be providing an opportunity to review the past years and chart further directions in fostering peace and harmony based on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals quality education – Goal 4, pertaining to peace and justice – Goal 16, and partnership – Goal 17.
The conference team invites the international and regional scholars to reflect on the theme of harmony and reconciliation from a historical, theological, economic, social, political, educational, environmental and other perspectives.
It encourages activists, artistes, scholars and anyone who values the concept of Harmony in society to meet and reflect critically on the theme of harmony, peace and reconciliation.
The conference will assist in making policy recommendations to faith-based organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGO), international development organisations and national organisations.
It will result in the publishing of papers with discussions and conclusions.
