The Southern Book Fair organised by the Commonwealth Book Publishers Network and launched on 19 January is currently taking place at the Galle Town Hall.  A range of literary activities including those for children are taking place and will continue till 28 January. The event is held parallel to the Galle Literary Festival and as part of the Galle Concerto that is proceeding till end of March, celebrating Sri Lankan culture, the arts and heritage.

Among the many highlights of the event was the launch of the booklet Destination Sri Lanka published by Neptune Publishers.

“We are happy that the Commonwealth Publishers Network has managed to unfold its first edition of the Southern Book Fair in the heritage city of Galle. We are pleased to host a range of literary activities including for children and to offer the event as a platform for diverse book launches as well as related discussions,” the Commonwealth Publishers Network Chairman Dinesh Kulatunga said. Destination Sri Lanka is to be printed as an extended international edition and presented at the upcoming Delhi Book Fair in India in February.

Among the literary books launched at the Southern Book Fair in Galle, were a series of ten children’s books published by Graphicare and authored by State Literary award winning writer Thanuja Gamage. Several daily children’s programs encompassing literature and the arts are also happening and 28 January will see the hosting of a grand finale that includes public talks and discussions on matters connected with literature and the arts.
