A group of old boys from Ananda College, Colombo have mobilised their alumni, both in the country and abroad, to help save lives of COVID-19 patients at the General Hospital Nagoda Kalutara.
The Ananda 81 Group arranged a ventilator to the hospital on 3 June after making another donation of essential supplies to help patients last month. After hospital authorities informed of the shortage of life-saving equipment, the Ananda 81 Group committed to providing a High Flow Nasal Cannula Ventilator immediately and more at the earliest.
The equipment was handed over to Deputy Director Dr. N.K.C. Gunaratne, and Senior Consultant Surgeon Dr. D.C. Rajapaksha who is also a member of the Ananda 81 Group.
A spokesman for the group said they were able to mobilise support from Anandians as well as well-wishers who instantly recognised the need to help state hospitals battling an ever-increasing number of virus patients.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardana attended a simple ceremony at which the first donation was made on 25 May.
