Healthguard, Sri Lanka’s leading health and beauty retail chain — a subsidiary of Sunshine Healthcare Lanka Ltd. — recognised their eminently-qualified pharmacists recently in honour of World Pharmacist Day 2019.

A special event was organised at the Healthguard Training Centre in Colombo 3, which brought together all outlet supervisors along with the management team of Healthguard.

The theme of this year’s World Pharmacist Day, as designated in 2009 by International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and the United Nations (UN), is ‘Safe and Effective Medicines for All’, which Healthguard endorses unequivocally. All Healthguard pharmacists play a front-line role in patient safety through improving medicine use and reducing medication errors, and they are deeply conscious of this responsibility.

“Pharmacists use their broad knowledge and specific expertise to ensure that people get the best out of their medicines. At Healthguard, our pharma-experts undergo extensive further training to ensure the appropriate use of medicines for all customers, improve adherence to safety guidelines, coordinate care transitions, and so much more. Today, more than ever, pharmacists are charged with the responsibility to ensure that when a patient uses medication, it will not cause them any harm. With the theme of this year’s World Pharmacist Day, we are glad to highlight the crucial role that pharmacists play in the safe and effective use of medicine,” said Healthguard Chief Executive Officer Infiyaz Ali.

Conveying his heartfelt thanks to all Healthguard pharmacists for their service, Sunshine Healthcare Lanka Managing Director Shyam Sathasivam said: “Pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare professionals across the nation. They bridge any gaps between patient needs and doctor prescriptions. On World Pharmacist Day, not only do we appreciate the role of Healthguard pharmacists for their excellence in their field of study, but for the positive impact they have had on promoting health and wellness in Sri Lanka.”

Healthguard Pharmacy is a fully-owned subsidiary of Sunshine Healthcare Lanka (SHL) – the healthcare arm of the diversified Sunshine Holdings conglomerate – with a network of 23 outlets across the Western Province of Sri Lanka. Healthguard entered the market, desirous of creating a differentiated offering and retailing experience to the consumer, and has introduced an innovative retail concept centred on exceptional shopper experience.
