Hemas Hospitals wins prestigious Business Excellence Award setting regional benchmark

Hemas Hospitals – Sri Lanka’s Most Loved Hospitals Brand according to LMD – has been recognised once again for its exceptional contributions to hospitals with an award on a global platform. Accordingly, Hemas Hospitals was presented with the prestigious Business Excellence Award at the recently concluded Asian Hospital Management Awards held in Bali, Indonesia. 

The Awards celebrate innovation and the transformation of hospital management across the Asia-Pacific region, while the Business Excellence Award, in particular, recognises leading hospitals for operational efficiency and patient-centric strategies. This award was presented to Hemas Hospitals in recognition of its outstanding efforts to enhance the patient experience by addressing a common industry challenge – delays in the discharge process. This was achieved as a result of an optimised discharge process implemented at Hemas Hospitals – Thalawathugoda. 

Hemas Hospitals’ project to minimise discharge delays focused on reducing the long wait times patients often face between receiving discharge approval and leaving the hospital. These delays not only frustrate patients but also put pressure on hospital resources. To address this, Hemas Hospitals introduced an optimised discharge protocol at its Thalawathugoda hospital, cutting the average discharge time from 112 minutes to 75 minutes, well ahead of the initial target of 90 minutes. This improvement highlights the Hospitals’ ability to enhance efficiency without sacrificing patient care or satisfaction. The new streamlined process benefits both the hospital and its patients by minimising delays and creating a smoother, more efficient discharge experience.
