The Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka recently announced that steps were being taken to digitalise the Sri Jayewardenepura University Medical Centre.
Under this project, a Hospital Health Information Management System (HHIMS) will be introduced where it will significantly improve the quality of the services of the medical centre by giving timely access to critical clinical information, mobilising new resources, and ensuring accountability. In addition, the new system will significantly reduce the need to maintain paper-based records and enable an improved and efficient service to patients by automating patient registration, queue management, examination, drug ordering (prescription), lab tests ordering, injections, and summary report generation.
Over 15,000 students, faculty members, and staff will experience efficiency and speedy service once the system is implemented.
The ICTA will provide technical assistance for the system implementation. As a result, the medical centre of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura will be the first university in Sri Lanka to implement an HHIMS.
University Grants Commission Chairman Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, ICTA Chief Executive Officer Eng. Mahinda B. Herath, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Professor of Computer Science Prof. Prasad Jayaweera, ICTA Chief Digital Government Officer Kanchana Thudugala, ICTA Director Line of Business Solutions Amila Kularatne, ICTA Program Manager Maheesa Dayananda, and many other representatives, were present at the occasion.
