Lina Manufacturing, the pharmaceutical manufacturing arm of Sunshine Holdings PLC, recently partnered with the Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists to commemorate World Lung Day 2024 and the college’s inaugural Founders’ Day.
The event, held on 29 September in Colombo, gathered over 75 medical professionals, including council members, past presidents, and members of the College. It was conducted under the theme of this year’s College of Pulmonologists, ‘Equity in Respiratory Health: For the Right to Breathe Free’.
This year’s World Lung Day theme, ‘Clean Air and Healthy Lungs for All,’ underscores the critical link between air quality and lung health, a cause that Lina Manufacturing has consistently supported through its innovative respiratory products. Conducted under the global initiative by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS), this year’s campaign seeks to raise awareness of the devastating impact of air pollution, which claims an estimated 7 million lives annually, contributing to conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, and respiratory infections.
The event recognised Sri Lanka’s senior consultant pulmonologists for their invaluable contributions to advancing respiratory medicine in the country, highlighting decades of dedication to improving the healthcare landscape and fostering the development of young medical professionals in the field. Additionally, several senior consultants delivered keynote speeches reflecting on the history of respiratory medicine in Sri Lanka and the way forward for the future of lung health in the country. The event also featured a panel discussion tackling contemporary issues affecting respiratory health, particularly in the context of rising air pollution levels.
Lina Manufacturing’s marketing team actively participated in the event, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that align with their mission to improve respiratory health outcomes across Sri Lanka.
“We are honoured to have been part of this significant celebration and to stand alongside the Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists in championing lung health,” said Lina Manufacturing Chief Executive Officer Dr. T. Sayandhan. “Lina Manufacturing is committed to offering solutions that address the significant threat of air pollution to public health, and we will persist in advocating for cleaner air and healthier lives for all Sri Lankans.”
