The Medical Help International and Rotary Colombo West recently joined forces in a significant healthcare initiative, donating state-of-the-art beds to the new ICU Unit at the ETU/PCU of the National Hospital OPD.

They handed over 30 brand new Intensive Care Unit Beds for the new ETU/PCU of OPD NHSL – Colombo.

Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala officiated the momentous occasion of adding these new beds to the new Emergency Treatment Unit/Preliminary Care Unit for the OPD at NHSL. This marked the second phase of the project, a testament to the power of collaboration, initiated by the Rotary Club of West under the leadership of District Governor Jerome Rajendram, and funded by Medical Help International.

In his address, Dr. Mahipala underscored the crucial role of the Independent Domestic & Foreign Medical Donation Committee (IDFMDC) in handling healthcare-related donations to Government hospitals. Initially proposed by MHI and adopted by the Ministry of Health, this committee is a significant step towards ensuring donor accountability. It is a sustainable initiative, a beacon of transparency, and a testament to our commitment to the efficient future of our healthcare system.

Medical Help International is a Sri Lanka and USA-based public charity that partners with many charitable and non-philanthropic organisations worldwide to initiate and collaborate on healthcare-related projects.

MHI, in strong collaboration with its partner organisations, has coordinated over Rs. 60 billion in medicines from all over the world. Together with its collaborative partners, MHI has donated Rs. 200 million worth of medicines, consumables, and healthcare-related equipment to Sri Lanka during the last two years, significantly bolstering the healthcare sector. Expolanka Holdings/EFL, one of MHI’s prominent partners, assisted with sponsoring the shipping/transportation cost.

Dr. Pradeep Rathnasekara, Dr. Ruwan Thushara, Dr. Indika Lanorolle, Dr. Wickramasinghe (DDG NHSL), Dilini De Silva, Kalana Eragoda, and Mehraj Sally, representing Medical Help International, attended the handing-over ceremony.
