Launching of free Healthy Life Information Service

According to the statistics by WHO the number of deaths due to diabetes, heart disease, cancers and chronic respiratory tract diseases are seemingly increasing around the world. In Sri Lankan 70% of the annual deaths are due to the above mentioned non-communicable diseases. According to the latest health statistics about 30% of Sri Lankans suffer from obesity, 10% have fallen prey to diabetes and about 20% suffer from hypertension. Negligence in following appropriate health advice and unhealthy lifestyle has paved the way to an increase in disease burden and rise in complications caused by these diseases.

Lack of knowledge has been the main cause which has led to the rise of the above mentioned diseases. To resolve that MyDoctor.lk with the sole aim of building an aware nation has created a free-of-charge information service, ‘Healthy Life Information Service’. This program was launched by Mahinda Rajapaksa on 29 September, ‘World Heart Day’ as yet another gift to build a healthier nation.

Through this health information service Sri Lankans would be able to listen to health advice on diabetes, hypertension, obesity, high cholesterol and also specialised health tips dedicated to the senior citizens.

Now anyone can dial 2407 or 0117 247 000 to access this service using their phones and listen to these health advices daily which are free.

“The aim of MyDoctor is to create convenient access to healthcare services by means of information technology and also develop a healthy lifestyle among people using the digital media. Healthy life – Information services which is currently in Sinhala language, would be made available in all three languages in the near future for the benefit of all Sri Lankans,” said MyDoctor CEO Sameera Wijeratne, at the occasion.

Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed his extreme pleasure of having the opportunity to give the entire nation the access to learn best practices and get health advice which he has been following throughout his life via such a platform.
