Nawaloka Laboratory sets new healthcare standards with ISO 15189:2022 accreditation

Nawaloka Laboratory, well reputed institution in Sri Lanka’s healthcare landscape, proudly announced its achievement as the first laboratory in the country to successfully elevate to the latest version of ISO 15189 accreditation, namely ISO 15189:2022. The surveillance was conducted by the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board which serves as the national authority responsible for upholding and maintaining the standards for clinical and testing laboratories across Sri Lanka. At the core of this accreditation lies a robust test scope covering a comprehensive range of 87 tests. 

These encompass pivotal domains such as clinical biochemistry, chemical pathology, microbiology, immunology, and serology. 

Commenting on the achievement, Nawaloka Laboratory Management said: “We proud to anno-unce this historic achievement as the first laboratory in Sri Lanka to attain ISO 15189:2022 accreditation, by the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board. This accomplishment reflects our enduring commitment to delivering quality healthcare services. By constantly upgrading and improving healthcare standards in Sri Lanka, we aim to provide our community with precise and reliable diagnostic results, fostering trust among patients, clinicians, and stakeholders.” Nawaloka Laboratory, founded in 1985 as the laboratory arm of Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, has a rich history of establishing itself as a pioneer in diagnostic services within Sri Lanka. In a recent milestone, Nawaloka Laboratory underwent an extensive upgrade, consolidating into a single, comprehensive unit spanning an impressive 20,000 square feet. This expansion encompasses not only state-of-the-art facilities but also includes a fully logistic area, further enhancing our capacity to deliver top-notch healthcare services.

A key factor behind Nawaloka Laboratory’s success is its diverse team comprising over 30 consultants, and healthcare professionals, equipped with a spectrum of qualifications, such as those accredited by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC), encompassing BSc, MSc, MBA, and MPhil across various fields, diligently contributes throughout the testing cycle.  As well as the laboratory seamlessly transitions to high-end technology, conducting a spectrum of tests from fundamental analyses to highly specialised immunological assessments leveraging more than 14 advanced analysers. Furthermore, as part of its commitment to sustainability, the laboratory has initiated a shift towards dry chemistry analysers, significantly conserving water resources and making a positive environmental impact on a global scale also . As Nawaloka Laboratory celebrates this historic milestone, it reiterates its commitment to core values of excellence, integrity, and compassion.
