Ninewells Medical Laboratory receives SLAB Accreditation

The Ninewells Medical Laboratory received accreditation of Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) recently, further assuring its patients of the precision and highest level of accuracy of its laboratory reports.

The accreditation scheme for Medical/Clinical laboratories is based on ISO 15189: 2012 standards and the hospital received the accreditation for the areas of Clinical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry and Chemical Pathology, and Haematology.

“The Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment which is the accreditation authority for Sri Lanka offers a scheme for accreditation of medical laboratories based on international standard ISO 15189: 2012.

“Ninewells Hospital enrolled in this program two years ago and have been strictly adhering to the protocols of SLAB during this period. Following this process we are happy to announce that our Laboratory is now officially ISO 15189 certified,” said Ninewells Hospital Laboratory Manager Shiromi Wickramaarachchi.

This particular scheme audits the laboratory’s quality and competence and therefore is an assurance of the reliability of its test results. Elaborating further on this, Ninewells Hospital General Manager Tharanga Weerasuriya added: “We are glad to have received the SLAB accreditation for our laboratory as this is a stronger and more firm assurance to our clients and consultants about the accuracy of our lab reports.

“Since its inception, Ninewells Hospital has been striving to bring the best possible medical services to the women and children of our country and we are glad to strengthen their confidence in us even further through this accreditation.”

Also expressing his views, Ninewells Hospital Chief Operating Officer and Medical Director Dr. Vibash Wijeratne stated: “The Ninewells Medical Laboratory offers 24/7 service to its patients and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and highly qualified laboratory technologists. Our laboratory staff has been working tirelessly over the last few years, and we are happy to have received this accreditation which bears testament to the precision and accuracy of our laboratory work.”
