Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA), the apex national medical professional body, will launch a program to recognise and reward its members who have been in the frontline battling the COVID-19 pandemic, which is now rampant worldwide, its President Professor Indika Karunathilake has announced.

“The commitment and dedication of health professionals in controlling this pandemic need to be appreciated,” the President of SLMA said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been unprecedented in the history of mankind, sparing none be it nationality, race, religion, the rich and the poor alike. The world’s economy has virtually come to a grinding halt; it appears that we need to adapt to a new norm for this threat is likely to stay with us for a long time to come,” he added.

“Therefore, our health professionals have a tremendous responsibility on their shoulders to contain its spread among the people, minimise fatalities and prevent any resurgence of the disease,” he pointed out.

The SLMA’s program titled CARE acronym for COVID-Appreciation Respecting Engagement are the steps the healthcare providers will be taking for this long-term engagement, Prof. Karunathilake emphasised.

“I must thank the CEO of Ch17 Loyalty Jumar Preena for agreeing to extend their services to SLMA’s CARE Program by enabling their popular privilege loyalty scheme that will give many benefits to our membership and their families.”

“We are indeed honoured to partner with SLMA towards this worthy cause and we will offer all resources and channels within our network to make this a success. The benefits will include, but are not limited to discounts on consumer goods, preferential rates and personalised service from a wide range of partners in our platform,” Jumar Preena said.
