The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Sri Lanka yesterday handed over maternity and dignity kits worth Rs. 3.1 million prepositioned in partnership with Oxfam Sri Lanka to Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe.
The kits contain items explicitly tailored to the needs of mothers, women, and girls of reproductive age in local communities as well as hygiene and sanitary items.
The kits are part of the UNFPA’s “regional pre-positioning initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Australian Government to support countries to respond to emergencies effectively,” a statement issued by the UNFPA said.
According to the statement, the aim of the initiative is to provide the simplest amenities that have the greatest impact on a woman’s comfort, mobility and physical and psychological health.
