The Consumer Affairs Authority in Sri Lanka has directed all private hospitals in the island to issue comprehensive bills to patients for the services they obtain. CAA has also requested the hospital authorities to ensure the safety, efficiency and quality of the medicinal drugs given to patients according to the National Medicine Regulatory Authority Bill which was passed in parliament recently. The bills should include charges for the services, details of medicinal drugs and equipment used for patients and charges for them, according to the consumer protection agency. CAA Chairman Rumi Marzook said the directive was issued in response to a string of complaints received by the CAA from Doctors as well as patients, He said that some private hospitals, doctors, channeling centers and outpatient departments (OPDs) are issuing bills in which they have included very expensive price details of medicinal drugs which is a burden on the patients.
