Altair, Sri Lanka’s iconic twin tower high rise development, sponsored the 2016 Spring Scientific Meeting of the Sri Lankan Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) UK, an event attended by medical professionals of Sri Lankan origin resident in the UK.
British Medical Association President Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran was the Guest of Honour at this event, and delivered the keynote speech on ‘Human rights and health with illustrative cases’. The technical sessions were followed by lunch, the association’s AGM and a dinner dance at which Sri Lanka’s cricketing legend Kumar Sangakkara was also a Guest of Honour.
Inaugurated in 1982 and formerly known as the Sri Lankan Doctors Association, the SLMDA is the largest charitable organisation of professionals from a Sri Lankan background in the UK. It has a fully paid membership of more than 450 doctors and dentists, an affiliated Spouses Forum and an equally large and active Youth Forum of young doctors and medical and dental students.
