Browns Hospital Ragama celebrates Nurses’ Day

Browns Hospital Ragama celebrated ‘International Nurses Day’ on 12 May, under the theme; ‘A force for change: Improving health systems resilience’ in appreciation of its nursing staff for their invaluable services rendered to the hospital, its patients and to the society. The nurses were treated to a day with special programs and activities organised especially for them.

Members of the management team and staff handed over roses to the nurses as a token of appreciation in order to make them feel special, appreciated and loved. The Chief Guest at the function was Ragama Teaching Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Kumudu Kumari Jayakodi. The staff was addressed by the Chief Guest, as well as Browns Hospitals CEO Dr. Iraivan Thiyagarajah and Browns Hospitals CNO Daya Abeywardena.

International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on 12 May. It is also the anniversary of the birth of the well-known, Florence Nightingale, a lady who is known for spending most of her night rounds giving personal care to the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War and one who revolutionised nursing practices and the industry with her progressive ideas and reform methods, which has influenced modern-day nursing.

Passion, compassion and caring are some of the fundamental characteristics embraced and cherished by the nurses at Browns Hospital Ragama and they are always dedicatedly available 24 hours a day to ensure that they provide quality healthcare to their patients.

Dr. Iraivan Thiyagarajah commented, “The celebration was an opportunity to acknowledge the services our nurses provide. Nursing is an honourable profession and should be treated with respect and those in this profession should always remember why they chose to be nurses.”

“Whilst assisting our nurses in career development and knowledge gaining, we also encourage nurses to formulate a holistic relationship with their colleagues and patients alike,” he further stated.
