Center for Diabetes Endocrinology and Cardio-metabolism (CDEM) outspread wings further by ceremonially launching its own website on Saturday, 15 July. Being a novel but exclusive centre with essential facilities and leading medical specialists, a limitation CDEM had in spreading wings at full stretch was lack of its own location in cyber space for all of you to roam around and get an insight.
The occasion was marked by the presence of CDEM Chairman Dr. Prasad Katulanda (Consultant Diabetologist and Endocrinologist), Dr. Vajira Senarathna (Consultant Cardiologist), Dr. Lasantha Malawige (Consultant Sexologist), Dr. Gotabhaya Ranasinghe (Consultant Cardiologist), Dr. Ajith Malalasekara (Consultant Urologist), Dr. Gaya Katulanda (Consultant Chemical Pathologist) Dr. Malith Atapattu (General Manager, CDEM) and Rimzan Zackeriya (Marketing Manager, CDEM). The website was designed following a series of meetings with web-developer, web-writer and staff (chairman, directors, other medical specialists, nurses, nutritionists, physiotherapists).
This website will make the public more aware of CDEM, services and facilities. Keeping to the theme ‘Looking After lives’ CDEM wants to be closer to people and serve them. Creating awareness about the centre and its unique nature will be easier now through this attractive and descriptive website. In addition patients who are visiting for the first time can get the contact details and directions easily.
CDEM was established 15 months ago to provide comprehensive care in diabetes under one roof. Diabetes is a chronic illness characterised by high blood glucose levels affecting one’s heart, brain, feet and limbs, kidneys, sexual organs and eyes. CDEM provides numerous services to patients with diabetes and a few worth mentioning are diabetes care, cardiac care, eye care, nutrition and dietary care, full service pharmacy, high quality medical laboratory, foot care, wound care, sexual dysfunction clinic and kidney care. Additionally all types of hormone diseases, metabolic diseases, cardiac problems, chest disease, and sleep disorders are treated there.
Today the world is focusing more on ‘prevention than cure’. Any of us would like being disease free than getting the best treatment. CDEM has number of preventive programs as well. A few are preventive foot care, screening packages for diabetes, obesity, heart, kidneys, stroke and full body, cardiac rehabilitation program, and diabetes education program.
The website consists of several web pages about all those services as well as how to obtain the services. Furthermore through the website CDEM intends to start many new endeavours. Enhancement of patient education is one of them.
We need to wait and see how CDEM will grow with its newly launched website.
