The Center for Diabetes Endocrinology and Cardio-Metabolism (CDEM) celebrated its first anniversary on 20 April.
A pirith ceremony organised by the staff was followed by a heel danaya. A multi-religious ceremony was held in the morning to get blessings from Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu and Islamic priests to the young but growing organisation situated in close proximity to hospital square at No. 21, Norris Canal Road, Colombo 10.
CDEM was established with a vision of providing comprehensive care in diabetes, hormone disease, heart disease and metabolic conditions by a group of renowned consultants lead by Dr. Prasad Katulanda, consultant diabetologist and endocrinologist.
The founder partners included Dr. Vajira Senarathna (consultant cardiologist), Dr. Charith Fonseka (consultant eye surgeon), Dr. Rizni Cassim (consultant vascular surgeon), Dr. Lasantha Malawige (consultant sexuologist), Dr. Gotabhaya Ranasinghe (consultant cardiologist), Dr. Rushika Lanerole (consultant nephrologist), Dr. Manilka Sumanathilake (consultant diabetologist and endocrinologist), Dr. Ajith Malalasekara (consultant urologist), Dr. Ranil Jayawardena (consultant nutritionist), Dr. Gaya Katulanda (consultant chemical pathologist) and many more specialists. Patients got the chance to see all above consultants at their convenience at CDEM.
In keeping with motto ‘Looking after lives,’ CDEM is not only treating patients but also preventing complications, rehabilitating and educating. The additional services provided include foot-screening/foot-care, diabetes wound-care, obesity management, dietary advice, sexual dysfunction clinic, physiotherapy and eye care.
The steady growth of the CDEM laboratory shows the growing popularity of CDEM as a health care provider in the nation. Modern equipment and stringent quality control has assured the accuracy of reports. Above all the ability to deliver tests results within two hours has been a major convenience to the patients who come from far-away to see the specialist at CDEM.
The full service pharmacy also has gained much popularity due to quick and precise service given by qualified pharmacists and availability of a variety of medicines, supplements and appliances.
The CDEM has invested on very advanced 2D echo machine and ultra-sound scanner and favoured by many cardiologists and radiologists.
CDEM pioneered the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men in Sri Lanka by acquiring the ED1000 machine, proven to relive sexual dysfunction in men worldwide. CDEM has treated many men with erectile dysfunction using it during last year. Moreover CDEM has offered many health packages for those with diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, obesity and stroke at rates affordable to diverse customers.
