CIC Holdings PLC, Glucerna commemorate World Diabetes Day with ‘Diabeats’ Campaign

CIC Holdings and Glucerna, CIC’s nutritional supplement for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes, recently hosted a series of events to support the ‘Diabeats’ campaign which was launched in commemoration of World Diabetes Day 2014. As part of the initiative, the CIC team gathered at the CIC Holdings Head Office and other key factories and locations across the country to learn how healthy living can help prevent and control diabetes. At the head office At each of the awareness sessions conducted, team members were able to make healthy living pledges to walk daily, lead a healthy life and eat healthy. To raise awareness about diabetes and the importance of healthy living, CIC also launched the ‘Diabeats’ track to help raise funds to buy prosthetic limbs for amputees who have lost a leg or foot due to diabetes.
  The CIC Feeds Event
CIC and Glucerna conducted awareness sessions to provide staff with information about diabetes. The first sessions were conducted at CIC Feeds and at CIC Holdings’ factory in Ratmalana. An introduction about diabetes was presented by nutritionists and the team received advice on how to prevent and control the disease. Samples of Glucerna were distributed and a Q&A session was also conducted. Thereafter the team made healthy living pledges and awareness wristbands were distributed to all participants. The following day, awareness sessions were conducted at the Link Natural Products facility and at Chemanex Limited. The sessions were extremely interactive and A. Mapalgama, Managing Director and CEO, Chemanex supported the project by matching the number of pledges made at Chemanex with a donation for the cause. The final sessions were held at Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka and CIC Holdings PLC. As part of the ongoing campaign, members of the public are also invited to make a pledge and download the ‘Diabeats’ track for free on (www.diabeats.lk). Every time the track is downloaded or a video of people dancing to the track is uploaded, CIC will donate Rs. 500 to provide amputees with prosthetic limbs. The latest statistics reveal that 25% of the population in Sri Lanka is suffering from diabetes and this figure is expected to increase rapidly in the next decade.
