Durdans ‘Good Heart, Good Health’ cardiac care seminar

Durdans Hospital conducted its quarterly Cardiac Seminar to create awareness about maintaining a healthy heart which coincided with World Heart Day. Durdans is the first healthcare institution in Sri Lanka to be accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI) with the Gold Seal of Approval for conforming to the standards of a world-class healthcare institution. The theme of the cardiac seminar was ‘Good Heart Good Health’ initiated to create awareness for the public with selected topics such as ‘Detecting early warning signs, heart attack and treatment’ a presentation by Durdans Resident Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Pandula Athaudaarachchi, ‘First aid and basic life support in an emergency’ by Resident Consultant Head of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Dr. Dushyanthi Perera, ‘Minimally invasive cardiac surgery’ by Dr. Kesava Dev a surgeon with over 8,000 cardiac surgeries completed at Durdans Heart Centre, ‘The correct diet’ by Harshini Meegaswatte Resident Dietician and Nutritionist and ‘Family healthcare and lifestyle management’ by Dr. Shreen Wilathgamuwa in charge of the family wellness, counselling and health screening at Durdans. Speaking at the event Durdans Hospital Group Product Manager Rae Devadason stated, “The Cardiac Seminar is a program designed to create awareness of early warning signs to heart disease which if detected early may save a persons’ life and the life of their loved ones.” He further added, “This has been the sixth consecutive program held on a quarterly basis. Further programs such as ‘Parent Craft programs’ for new mums and dads will also be introduced in the coming months along with sessions on cancer detection and awareness, all programs are open to the public as a free service. Simply call short code 1544 and ask for information on upcoming seminars and workshops.” Durdans has proven to be a centre of excellence in cardiology, cardiac surgery and cardiac investigative procedures both interventional and non-interventional with over 8,000 cardiac bypass procedures and over 24,000 Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory procedures completed. Durdans introduced four primary Health Checkup gift vouchers which can be purchased from the hospital and will be valid for a period of six months from the date of purchase. The four health check-up packages are namely; Basic – Rs. 3,450, Regular – Rs. 4,500, Executive – Rs. 12,750 and Comprehensive – Rs. 18,100, which include tests such as Fasting Blood Sugar, Full Blood Count, Chest X-ray with a Radiologist’s Report, ECG – Electrocardiogram, Serum Creatinine and ESR – Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate. Packages vary with more in-depth tests. A special Cardiac Screening package worth Rs. 7,500 was launched at the event.
