Reaching an exceptional achievement in its journey of seven decades as a healthcare provider, Durdans Hospital has been accredited with the ‘Gold Seal of Approval’ by Joint Commission International (JCI).
It is now at a level that is on par with top level healthcare institutions in the world. Its journey has been eventful and challenging but it has maintained dedication and quality throughout, while striving for excellence in clinical care, resulting in an accreditation which is the decisive measure that sets the standard for the best in the international healthcare sector.
Speaking at a press meet in the hospital premises on Wednesday, Durdans Hospital Executive Chairman Ajith Tudawe said, “This is a proud moment for all of us at Durdans. We have reached the most outstanding milestone in our history of seven decades.”
Stressing that the credit goes to the entire Durdans family, he added: “We are proud to be the first healthcare institution in this country to be accredited by the most respected body worldwide in the field of healthcare. Only a handful of healthcare institutions can boast of being in this premier league outside the United States of America. At Durdans honourable remarkable milestones have been reached with a clear vision of where we would like to be and what needs to be done to be there, followed by years of careful planning and almost seamless execution.”
Director Medical Services Dr. Wimal Jayantha said: “Our capacity for continual improvement, points towards a future in which quality and safety defects are dramatically reduced and high reliability is sought and achieved with regularity and unyielding vigour. This day-to-day progress will transform the healthcare system into one that achieves unprecedented performance outcomes for the benefit of the patient.”
Briefing the media on what the Joint Commission is about, Dr. Jayantha said: “Established in 1951 the Joint Commission is the largest accreditor of healthcare organisations in the United States of America. According to the information available, it has accredited more than 19,000 healthcare organisations and healthcare providers in the USA. Governed by a 32 member team, it sets health standards, evaluates and accredits healthcare institutions.”
Joint Commission International is the international arm of Joint Commission. The JCI accreditation is an initiative for international standards based evaluation in healthcare, stimulating continous sustained improvements in healthcare organisations in countries outside USA, with standards maintained by an international taskforce.
