8 September marked a historic collaboration between two healthcare pioneers in Sri Lanka, namely Nawaloka Hospitals PLC, renowned for their top of the line healthcare services and eDoctor (www.edoctor.lk), a service which made waves in Sri Lanka when they came out with their online consulting services.
Present at the signing of the MOU were Nawaloka Hospitals PLC Director and General Manager Prof. Lal Chandrasena, eDoctor Consultations Ltd. CEO Chris Weerasinghe and eDoctor Founder Dr. Harsha Jayakody.
Combining advanced medical technology and only the best of expert medical care, Nawaloka PLC first entered the healthcare system of Sri Lanka back in 1985; it has come a long way since then but their vision to be the best of the best still remains, which is only proven by their track record and the public response to their services.
A web-based consulting firm that specialises in initial medical advice, eDoctor has been functioning since 2012 offering a wide variety of services ranging from medical advice, consultation advice and perks to its members at various partner medical-institutions through the country.
And what could possibly result in such collaboration? “The public will be the ultimate beneficiary of this innovative and futuristic model of healthcare,” remarked both parties.
eDoctor’s forte lies in finding specialised doctors for their users. Instead of having to visit a generic clinic from which you will then be referred to a specialist, eDoctor will save you the time and effort of that visit by getting you access to that information from the comfort of your own home, or wherever you happen to be when you need that initial consultation.
Being an online medical advisory serve, eDoctor has also opened doors to previously untouched domains of the local medical service industry. In a culture where sexuality and related topics are either considered downright taboo or not discussed out in open, eDoctor grants its users the privilege of addressing their questions and concerns anonymously. This is an area which applies equally to both the young and the old, and awareness being the key to avoidance in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases among others; this is a pragmatic and timely concept that might yield positive results given time.
An innovative feature with eDoctor lies in their medical records feature: With the users’ medical records being available online, this opens a previously unheard of communication-channel between the doctor and the patient where both parties get access to all information needed to assess a consultation with zero down-time.
This collaboration also makes Nawaloka PLC’s hospital services available to clients on a global scale. In a time where there’s already a high demand for Sri Lankan health services from countries in the region such as Maldives and Seychelles, eDoctor’s services could possibly result in a boom in the health-service sector due to the ease of accessibility with which its clientele can access local service providers.
In light of the aforementioned partnership, Platinum members of eDoctor will have discounts from Nawaloka PLC starting at 30%; visiting patients to Nawaloka Hospitals will also get the privilege to access the wide range of eDoctor services. eDoctor currently has a limited offer on their Platinum membership which will also get their clients discounts at a variety of medical-service providers in the country.
In a nutshell, this is a collaboration between two forces that specialise in utilising bleeding-edge technology to provide world-class service to their clients. And what of the potential that lies within this partnership? As the old adage goes, ‘sky is the limit’.
