Honing a legacy that began in the last century, Emar Pharma celebrates its silver jubilee, having successfully become spearheads in a competitive and quality conscious industry. Augmenting the company’s vision of providing every Sri Lankan easy access to the world’s best healthcare products, services and technology, Emar Pharma has grown its business model on the triad of ‘Our People, Our Partners and Our Technology’. The Service for Health motto it proudly expounds is equally emphasised with a committed and motivated team, global relationships that encompass only the most respected healthcare corporates in the world and a technology platform built on continued innovation that has introduced Sri Lanka’s healthcare industry to some pioneering interventions and initiatives.     Deep-rooted history Recounting Emar Pharma’s deep-rooted history within the pharmaceutical industry which in fact reverts to the historical hill capital of Kandy way back in 1965 when the company operated within a milieu of local industrialisation, Managing Director S. Selladurai reminisces that the initial foray was in 300 square feet of office space with just a team of three. “To me, this milestone of 25 years is a great personal achievement as well because from a retail store dispenser, I have grown into an entrepreneur who can continue to give back to society. Our entire company ethos is built on that foundation.” Selladurai, who was one of the founders, remembers that even at the early stages, forging sincere and trustworthy relationships was a core in his business thinking. “Just three years into our entrepreneurial operation, seeing the potential, we expanded our focus from being a wholesale distributor to representing some of the leading pharmaceutical manufacturers in the Central Province,” remembers Selladurai. In 1981, M.R. Pharmaceuticals came into being, moving to Colombo and representing IPCA Laboratories India, a relationship that continues even today. “Among the valued business partners who have continued to be stalwarts in our company, IPCA Laboratories stands out because of the long relationship we have had and the fact that we have together seen challenging times.” It was in 1987, the founding year of the Company’s silver jubilee, that Emar Pharma began life as a Limited Liability Company, already a powerful presence in diagnostic, medical equipment, surgical and medical software and with great potential to move ahead.     Uncompromising philosophy of quality Emar Pharma’s Directorate, whose collective experience spans a century or more have since inception followed an uncompromising philosophy of quality. “This is our bottom line philosophy.  So whether in our team of 75 who truly believe that Emar Pharma must and will always give only the best in healthcare to Sri Lanka, to selecting our global partners whose quality premise is beyond the norm to the use of state of the art technology and innovations, we are cognisant that each of our decisions impacts our stakeholder. Presenting Sri Lankans access to world class healthcare products and services remains paramount in our entire corporate culture.” This focused emphasis on ensuring a portfolio of global partners that are surely among some of the most respected around the world, has seen the Company moot partnerships with healthcare multinationals from the US, Far East, Europe and India. Adding to the winning equation is Emar Pharma’s fully owned subsidiary Apcot Marketing which plays a crucial role in achieving the company’s mission of delivering the best healthcare products and technology by partnering with globally respected principals through the most well trained personnel in the country. Through a strategic network which brings together world class multinationals’ products under the single umbrella of Emar Pharma, quality healthcare reaches the people of both Sri Lanka and the Maldives with no compromise on quality, efficacy or end product condition. The Board of Directors at Emar Pharma and Apcot Marketing are confident that the companies will continue to etch exciting chapters. “What we won’t do is lose sight of our fundamental promise to our stakeholders. And that is that we are the lifeline to our people because it is we who are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that our customers are able to access world class healthcare products and services quickly, effectively and with an assurance of quality. We firmly believe that a healthy nation is a fundamental truss to building a country that can take on the challenges of the future. With our unwavering focus, we are surely constructing a healthy present for a sustainable future.”
