Officials from Sri Lanka Army and Premium International during the first Fresenius COM.TEC demonstration
The newly introduced cutting-edge German technology will improve the TPE (Therapeutic Plasma Exchange) process with the recent acquisition of a Fresenius COM.TEC machine at Sri Lanka Army Hospital, Narahenpita.
Transfusion medicine is revolutionised by the invention of this technique. As much as 10 kinds of therapeutic procedures can be done efficiently such as therapeutic plasma exchange and therapeutic red cell exchange, without exposing the risk of infections.
Further, it is a sensible tool to collect almost all desired blood components saving the time of blood bank personnel otherwise spending for component separation. This system uses pre-packaged disposable sets of sterile bags, tubing, and centrifugal devices specially designed for the process. Single- or dual-vein access techniques can be used. The time taken varies with the procedure adopted. Depending on the procedure and device used, process time varies. COM.TEC (Fresenius Kabi Germany) is an example of continuous cell separators.
