Professor Mohamed Rela, said, “India is emerging as a preferred healthcare destination primarily for living donor liver transplantation, as the success rates are proving to be better than those of the West. Patients from South East Asian countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and also from African and Middle East nations are steadily demonstrating their confidence in the quality of services and positive outcomes we are delivering.” Prof. Rela went on to say, “We have had instances of sick patients, especially adults with end-stage conditions being airlifted from Sri Lanka, who have successfully undergone liver transplants. As clinical outcomes/successes are directly related to the condition of the patient, it’s important for the patients to undergo treatment as early as possible so that recovery is better. Physicians who are treating patients with liver diseases should identify early, the conditions that warrant a transplant and refer them for a transplant so that complications are less.”
