A recent seminar on the topic ‘Current management of dry skin and eczema’ was attended by 135 doctors including dermatologists, paediatricians and general practitioners in Sri Lanka.
Organised by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Pharmaceuticals as part of the company’s commitment to contribute to the medical knowledge in countries in which it operates, the seminar was conducted by two eminent medical professionals, Dr. Aw Chen Wee Derrick, Senior Consultant Dermatologist at the National University Hospital, Singapore, and Dr. Gary Ong, Area Medical Director Dermatology, GSK-Asia.
Key areas highlighted in their presentations included clinical features of atopic dermatitis in children and adults and management including selection of topical corticosteroids, moisturisers and other systemic therapies.
Consequent to the company’s acquisition of the worldwide business of Stiefel Laboratories several years ago, GSK has very significantly enhanced the scope of the derma care it provides to patients and is working on developing therapeutic areas such as acne and fungal infections, in addition to its traditional strengths in dermatology.
