Harcourts Group of Companies Chairman Ahamed Rheyas has welcomed the planned move by the new Government to introduce a National Drug Policy as dire need. “A National Drug Policy after 35 years is most welcome and is the dire need of the hour,” Rheyas said. “President Maithripala Sirisena was keen to introduce the National Drug Policy even while he was the Minister of Health. Giving the chance to the patient to buy the same module is the best that could happen,” Harcourts Chief added. Harcourts Pharmacy is the largest dedicated private pharmacy chain in Sri Lanka with over 35 branches island-wide. It has a large customer base and understands the requirement of the people. A product available at different prices from companies for the same molecule is a deep concern. When there is price control and patients have the choice to choose the brand as per his or her affordability, it is the best that could happen to the country. Prescription by generic name is the ideal and the myth that generics are poor quality is not correct as the CDDRA registers the products of GMP approved companies and frequently samples are drawn from the market and tested and when the product does not confirm to the label claim the product is withdrawn.
