International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The theme for 2017 is ‘Nursing: A voice to lead – Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals’.
Apeksha Hospital together with CanHope Colombo organised an event celebrating International Nurses Day on 21 May. The event started at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Auditorium.
The focus of this event was the general knowledge of nurses; therefore they organised a competition with four groups competing against each other. In a group five nurses were included.
They used videos of Florence Nightingale, Cancer categories and a WHO presentation to create the questions. It was a learning session for everyone who was present.
The winning team got an award and all the other teams got souvenirs for their participation. During the break they distributed refreshments and two of the nurses – one male and female sang a song to entertain the crowd. In conclusion of the event they distributed gifts to the judge board, event sponsors and organising committee.
