With constant focus on enhancing the quality of service for each patient, Lanka Hospitals recently unveiled yet another state-of-the-art-technological development that will allow patients to obtain faster and accurate results in no time. The recently launched bar-coding and interfacing system delivers enhanced efficiency and accuracy to all patients — spelling yet another step toward raising the standards for diagnostics and laboratory services in Sri Lanka.

The top of the line technology operates from the first stage of the test processing chain; creating a specific bar-code based on each patient’s required test. This personalised code identifies the patient, the test or tests required and all other information with 100% accuracy and individuality – guaranteeing that no errors or mix-ups occur. With the bar-code linking back to all patient information, the entire process is then followed through the data stamp created – ensuring that each patient’s tests are carried out both quickly and accurately.

Speaking on what the new technology means to Lanka Hospital’s patients and medical specialists, Lakith Peiris CEO of Lanka Hospitals explained the importance of complete accuracy and efficiency in the area of diagnostics and laboratory services. “Technological advancements have made it possible to constantly enhance our service delivery to our patients. The interfacing software system makes it possible for Lanka Hospitals laboratory services to deliver results faster and with guaranteed accuracy of test results to each patient. Lanka Hospitals for the benefit of the general public and the medical fraternity will soon expand its laboratory services to cover the entirety of Sri Lanka. The new technology world class processes, human talent and affordability will certainly help to raise the current quality standards of diagnostics and laboratory services in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Akilesh Karan Singh Micro Biologist and the head of labs stated; “From the point of commencement, the interface system then begins, tracking each step of the testing process right through to completion. This software is also completely responsible for data analysis and thereby minimising human error and data entry errors. The software also completely eliminates sample mix ups. This assures that the right test is conducted and that results are accurate and concise”.

Speaking on the enhanced testing capacity of Lanka Hospitals labs; Dr. Wimal Karandagoda, Director Medical Services emphasised the capabilities now available to the Lanka Hospitals laboratory staff. “We are now able to double productivity and capacity with the interfacing system – allowing our staff to deliver twice the volume of tests. Having specifically trained each of our lab technicians, while also delivering accurate results faster”.

The technology also makes it possible for all record keeping activities across the test process chain to be tracked in real time. Delivering complete visibility and insight into efficiencies and areas for potential development, while also making it possible for hospital staff to track down specific results as well as access the test reports directly from different nursing stations throughout the hospital.
