Last Friday, Lanka Hospitals celebrated 10 years of excellence in healthcare with a gala ceremony at Waters Edge.

Formerly known as Apollo Hospital under Lanka Hospitals Corporation Ltd. (LHCL), it was first introduced in 2002 as the most advanced healthcare facility and Sri Lanka’s first purpose built private medical care facility.

Although Sri Lanka Insurance was taken over in 2006, it reverted to Government ownership in 2009. The licensing and support services agreement with Apollo Hospitals, India, also ended afterwards, which led to the renaming of Apollo Hospital as Lanka Hospitals.

Present at the event was Sri Lanka Tourism Board Chairman and Lanka Hospitals Director Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, who said: “We have had an inspiring 10 years, and as we look to the future, we will strive to become a force of reckoning in the sphere of global healthcare.”

He added: “A hospital is not just a hardware feature; it also consists of software features. When people come to our hospital, we assure them that they have come to a safe place where doctors, nurses and employees care for them. We have built that culture in this organisation.”

Furthermore, Godahewa speaking on the hospital’s performance, said: “We have improved significantly when it comes to quality and profitability. Our highest shareholder is Janashakthi Insurance Plc.”

Lanka Hospitals also recognised and congratulated 212 employees for their contribution and service at the event.

Lanka Hospitals CEO Lakith Peris commending the dynamic workforce behind Lanka Hospitals’ success, said: “Our employees, the family at Lanka Hospitals, worked timelessly to consistently be responsible and caring and to diligently deliver our promise to care with passion to those who are the most important element in our existence – our customers.”

He added: “We are also extremely appreciative of the role played by consultants and the medical professionals in paving the way for greater successes and growth at Lanka Hospitals. It is their dedication, constructive criticism and expertise that brought Lanka Hospitals to a position of leadership today. Going forward, a lot of modifications will take place in our journey to become the best in Asia.”

Elaborating on this, Godahewa said, “Our motive is to be the trendsetter in the private sector market by offering the best quality health care for an affordable cost.”

With a lot of ‘firsts’ for Lanka Hospitals, it continues to enjoy market leadership in many key areas in Sri Lanka’s private healthcare industry, revolutionising the healthcare industry in Sri Lanka through infrastructure development and advancement of products and services.

“We have set the benchmark for other hospitals in Sri Lanka,” mentioned Godahewa, adding, “We are able to do so because of the contribution of our employees. I want to thank all the employees who contributed to the success of the hospital and especially those of you who have stayed in our organisation for the longest period.”
