With a vision to be the ‘Best in Asia,’ Lanka Hospitals has been making significant headway in establishing itself as the market leader in Sri Lanka’s private healthcare industry in many critical operational, services and clinical areas.

The hospital’s service philosophy is built on the precepts of commitment to clinical protocols, provision of compassionate care and service excellence that transcends the conventional healthcare offer. Recognising that service excellence is dynamic in nature, the hospital continuously seeks to enhance its service delivery in a bid to provide Sri Lankans with world-class healthcare experiences.

This drive for excellence has seen Lanka Hospitals claim many “firsts” in the industry in both clinical as well non-clinical areas. As a firm believer that excellence in healthcare is a combination of excellence in clinical and non-clinical care, Lanka Hospitals has strived at every opportunity to up its game across the service continuum.Whilst its clinical excellence is driven by international alliances with some of the most reputed global healthcare providers in securing knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices, its excellence in non-clinical care stems from a meticulous drive for quality and continual improvement.

In April 2012 Lanka Hospitals further strengthened its service delivery by becoming the first private hospital in Sri Lanka to conform to and be certified with the ISO 22000:2005 standard for Food Safety Management. Lanka Hospitals completed the assurance process successfully to receive the ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System Certification.

The ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System Certification is the highest and most recognised food-related certification in the world and integrates the principles of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system to eliminate the presence of food-borne hazards in food from all stages of the food chain, be it production, processing, distribution, storage or handling.

“Though widely applied by food centric industries and the hospitality industry, we recognised the need to introduce ISO 22000:2005 to our food chain because we consider food and food safety as critical to our overall service delivery,” notes Lakith Peiris, CEO of Lanka Hospitals.

“Our catering resource is a major component of the main service delivery, though not a core function. Through the introduction of a Food Safety Management System that fully complies with the requirements of ISO 22000:2005, we have effectively enhanced the quality and safety of food for patients at the time of consumption,” he added.

In 2010, Lanka Hospitals became the first and only healthcare provider in Sri Lanka to be recognised by the ‘Crowns for Food Hygiene,’ in 2011 Lanka Hospitals was awarded 5 out of 5 crowns, the highest recognition in food hygiene, a programme launched by the Ind-Expo Certification a joint venture between the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) and the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE).
