Dialog subscribers can now make charitable donations in aid of the Colours of Courage Trust (COCT) who is raising funds in aid of the construction of a radiotherapy nit and the development of a hHigh dependency paediatric unit in Jaffna, using Dialog’s innovative mobile money platform, eZ Cash.
The trail project initiated by the COCT, a non-profit organisation that has, since its inception in 2008, dedicated its efforts to developing infrastructure to support greater access to and quality of cancer treatment in Sri Lanka.
In 2011 the COCT embarked on a 27-day journey from Dondra Head, the Southernmost point of Sri Lanka, to Point Pedro the Northernmost point of the island saw over 30,000 Sri Lankans joining hands to give hope to those afflicted by cancer. Its inceptions trail has raised over 1.6 million US Dollars for the cause.
Eminent personalities hailing from the Government, sporting arena, corporate sector and the film industry have endorsed trail as a project. High profile names include Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews, Dian Gomes and Otara Gunawardene.
eZ Cash from Dialog has now come forward to support this worthy cause using state-of-the-art technology and an innovative way to donate. Dialog subscribers can now contribute towards this cause by dialling #111#, select institute payment, enter COCT, enter membership No. or the account number (1234), and enter the donation amount and send it.
The state of the art Mobile Money technology eZ Cash, that enables mobile subscribers to maintain mobile money accounts in their mobile phone.
Using their eZ Cash mobile money account, customers can now send and receive money to/from more than 7.5 million Dialog mobile users, settle utility bills and make payments for other goods and services, direct from their mobile phone.
In June 2012 eZ Cash became Sri Lanka’s first mobile money service after being awarded a license under the aegis of the Payments and Settlements Act No. 28 of 2005. Custodial banking services for Sri Lanka’s pioneering mobile money service are provided by Hatton National Bank (HNB).
Dialog’s eZ Cash mobile payment system is further secured through the institution of a trust instrument administered by Deutsche Bank AG.
The tri-partite trust instrument between HNB, Deutsche Bank and Dialog Axiata defined under the aegis of the regulations stipulated by the Central Bank enshrines eZ Cash within a customer protection environment on par with Global best practice.
“Due to the current busy lifestyles of people, making donations via mobiles has quickly evolved to become a critical tool for charities to raise much-needed funds. We envisage the same sequence of events to follow suit in Sri Lanka,” Dialog Enterprise Chief Officer Jeremy Huxtable said.
“Money raised by the campaign will fund a new era in availability and accessibility for cancer detection and treatment in Sri Lanka, changing the odds of survival for a multitude of people who were hitherto deprived of such ready access.”
