Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan visits Maldivian patients at Lanka Hospitals

President of the Republic of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan, on a two-day working visit to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call to Lanka Hospitals along with the first lady and a delegation comprising the Maldivian Health Minister Dr. Thoriq Ali Luthufi, Hussain Shihab, High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Ahmed Mohamed, Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Abdul Samad Abdulla, Minister of Foreign Affairs and several senior Maldivian government officials recently. During his visit to the hospital he took the opportunity to meet with several warded Maldivian patients and inquire after their health.
The Maldivian Head of State the Republic of Maldives commended the high standard of service offered by Lanka Hospitals to Maldivian patients, stating that he has received many positive comments about the facilities available, standards of clinical care and the quality of the medical specialists and the nursing care at Lanka hospitals from the Maldivian inpatients.
The President also thanked for building and continuing a very strong bond with the people of the Republic of Maldives, also the seamless services that Lanka Hospitals continue to provide the health sector in Maldives.
Speaking about the President’s visit Lanka Hospitals CEO Lakith Peiris said: “We at Lanka Hospitals are honoured to have been able to host Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan, the President of the Republic of Maldives to a tour of our hospital and elated that he was able to find time during his busy schedule to visit some of our Maldivian patients and spent time with them. The Deputy Chairman of Lanka Hospitals Roshini Cabraal stated: “Over the years Lanka Hospitals has formed a very strong relationship with the Republic of Maldives and the hospital has consistently offered its fullest support to improve the overall health care industry of Maldives in more than one way”.
Lanka Hospitals has at present trained over 300 Maldivian government nurses on clinical practices as part of an annual programme in addition to training several medical administrators and caregivers. Lanka Hospitals has also sent several local medical specialists to serve in Maldives in fields where a scarcity of medical specialists have been identified in the Maldives and has also carried out continuous medical education in Male and surrounding islands to general medical practitioners and government doctors.
Furthermore, given the high number of Maldivian patients seeking treatment, the hospital also has a Maldivian representative to overcome any language barriers and facilitate insurance claims and also accept the local currency of Maldives. The Lanka Hospitals centre in Male also facilitates patient counselling on various medical packages available at Lanka Hospitals, assist in obtaining appointments with specialist doctors, and coordinate all health care related services between their local doctor and the specialist doctors in Sri Lanka. Lanka Hospitals also attends other services such as patient evacuation from Maldives to Sri Lanka in medical emergencies.
Maldivian President and his entire delegation was pleased of the pricing policy of Lanka Hospitals to the Maldivian patients, as it is exceptional to charge Maldivian patients the same hospital prices as for local patients. The high profile delegation requested continued support from Lanka Hospitals to share its knowledge, experience and expertise to further develop the health sector in the Republic of Maldives.
