MARKSSHealthcare, one of the fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in Sri Lanka, partnered with the OPD of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) and organised a thematic discussion on frequently found disease conditions among neonates.
A total of 35 doctors participated in this event, which focused on the experiences the medical officers of the LRH OPD. This discussion was based on a list of common complaints encountered regarding the neonate. The forum was led by Dr. Anoma, Resident Pediatrician of Lady Ridgeway Hospital Colombo, and included discussions on a range of disease conditions.
Dr. Savithri Kallapatha, Chief Medical Officer – Lady Ridgeway Hospital commended MARKSS for supporting her team in their efforts to sustain high level of services as one of the best children’s hospitals in Asia, through conducting informative discussions to increase awareness amongst medical practitioners.
One of the key points discussed at the forum was the feeding difficulties and breast feeding failures due to mother’s anxiety. This reduces the production and flow of breast milk which can make the mother even more anxious creating a vicious cycle of further reducing breast milk. Further the discussion covered aspects of weight gain, the importance of monitoring urine output and number of bowel openings per day in making a proper diagnosis.
Dr. S. Mahakalanda, Medical Director of MARKSS HLC, commented: “Our continuous efforts in creating medical awareness will form a cornerstone of quality health care in Sri Lanka one day. We are especially thankful to the doctors who participated and showed great enthusiasm in discussing their experiences at this forum.”
