Mega Lifesciences honours 18 lady medical professionals on Intl. Women’s Day

Honouring the excellence of female figureheads in the field of medical science, Mega Lifesciences commemorated International Women’s Day on 8 March by felicitating 18 personalities whose contributions have been invaluable to the furtherance of medical science and human wellness in Sri Lanka.





Presided over by the Chief Guest Prof. Lalitha Mendis and representatives from the WHO, the evening honoured eighteen long-serving female professionals from the medical fraternity of Sri Lanka, who were duly felicitated by Mega Lifesciences with fitting accolades bearing testimony to their praiseworthy contributions to the medical practice of Sri Lanka.

The event hosted and initiated by Mega Lifesciences at the Sri Lanka Medical Association was an event paying apt tribute to Sri Lankan female medical professionals, who play a vital role in maintaining and improving the nation’s wellbeing. The opening address was delivered by Sri Lanka Medical Association President Vajira H. W Dissanayake who highlighted the importance of medical professionals and commended their invaluable service to society.

The event was also aimed at creating awareness about the issue of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Sri Lanka and the evening set the focus for another landmark occasion which was the launch of ‘A Review of Research Evidence on Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Sri Lanka’ which is a book produced by the The Women’s Health Committee of the SLMA on their collective findings on gender based violence endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The publication of these findings marks a timely addition to the body of research being done on this subject that has been of great concern both locally and internationally.

‘Outstanding Health Professional Awards 2012’ hosted by Mega Lifesciences concluded as a memorable evening having been a duly performed duty in acknowledging the value of Sri Lankan womanhood on International Women’s Day.
