Nawaloka Hospital is making it possible for anyone to access a doctor from their own home, at a nominal charge, with the launch of its Home Ambulance unit in December 2012.

Available throughout Colombo and its suburbs, Nawaloka Hospital’s Home Ambulance service was created specifically to cater to people requesting a doctor to come to their homes to treat common ailments such as respiratory tract infections, colds, wounds, etc., without the potentially heavy costs that could result from medical emergencies. It is also ideal for the elderly, or the infirm, for whom travel is not easy. And, as this is a home visit, and not an emergency, there will only be a minimal cost added for the medical doctor’s time and the home ambulance fee.Nawaloka Hospital’s home ambulances are fully geared to diagnose and treat a number of common medical issues, with ECG recorders to monitor the heart, glucometers to check blood sugar levels, ventilators to provide oxygen, intravenous (IV) drips to rapidly administer antibiotics, etc. Also on offer are wound treatment and dressing as well as inserting urethral catheters, and other common medical procedures.

Nawaloka Hospital also indicated that its Home Ambulance unit, a new service that will be available from next month onwards, is a customer-centric offering, as there are a number of common ailments for which people need treatment. Additionally, it provides the opportunity to access medical assistance as the visiting doctor can identify medical issues and provide the correct course of action.
