Another dengue epidemic threatens to claim more lives throughout the country even while malaria, filaria and Japanese Encephalitis remain as risks. None of these mosquito borne diseases should be ignored. Preventive measures to control the breeding of mosquitoes are urgently required, and the Ninja brand is at the forefront of this effort.
Leading the fight against the mosquito is the Ninja Mosquito Coil. Made in Sri Lanka using 80% local materials, Ninja Coils are the undisputed market leaders. They are the consumers’ No. 1 choice because of trust in their stringent quality standards and proven efficacy in repelling mosquitoes.
The very manner in which Ninja coils are produced prevents the breeding of mosquitoes. Before the advent of gas cookers, coconut shells would be used for fire wood. But today, the empty shells are simply thrown out. This is a serious hazard because they can become natural breeding vessels for mosquitoes. To prevent this, Ninja now uses these shells in the coil production process.
A program was formulated to educate the public on the dangers of throwing away coconut shells. Instead those shells can be used as a source of revenue. Ninja collects them, pays a set price for them, and then uses them as raw material for coils. Thus the very shells that might facilitate mosquito breeding have been transformed into the Ninja Coils that repel them.
Another way in which Ninja safeguards the environment is its use of wood shavings to fire the boilers that bake the coils, instead of using diesel fuel. In doing so, Ninja not only clears the environment of wood shaving refuse, but has also halted the consumption of 1,100 litres of diesel per month and the resultant air pollution by its smoke. This is but one of many environmentally-friendly measures put in place when shifting the Ninja Production Unit from Ekala to Millawa in Padukka.
At a time when monetary profit seems to be the dominant corporate priority, companies that place equal importance on social health and well-being are far and few between. Amongst those few is Darley Butler, the manufacturers and marketers of Ninja. This a company that recognises its responsibility to protect the health and well being of the community it serves.
In keeping with its leadership status, Ninja will not rest in its battle against the mosquito menace that imperils the lives of our families and loved ones. It will continue to find innovative and environmentally friendly measures to defeat this threat and ensure the safety of our people.
