The Oticon story starts with one man’s passion to help his wife lead a better life, unhindered by her hearing loss. Founder of Oticon Hans Demant’s wife, Camilla experienced hearing loss from an early age. News came to him of a revolutionary hearing device used at Queen Alexandra’s coronation. Inspired by the news he travelled to London to buy the same hearing device for his wife. Amazed by Camilla’s improvement Hans was driven to help more people suffering from hearing loss. His endeavour more than one hundred years ago has evolved in to Oticon, one of the trusted hearing aid brands in the world. This passion to empower people in need of hearing support is what drove Oticon through last century and it is what drives them now, and what will take us into the next.
The result is a company that consistently sets new standards in hearing care, from Digifocus, the world’s first digital hearing instrument to Agil, the world’s first cognitive friendly hearing system. More recently Oticon has introduced Alta, a newer, better way for hearing care professionals to factor more personal dimensions into each fitting and Intiga, a solution that improves acceptance for first-time users from the first fitting.
In 2014, Oticon introduced a newly upgraded Streamer Pro that enables people who purchase Oticon wireless hearing instruments, including an existing base of two million current users, to connect to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch via the OticonConnectLine App.
“We anticipate and respond to changing user expectations and align those expectations with the possibilities of innovative technology and audiological approaches,” says Lauritsen. “There is nothing static about Oticon’s commitment to putting the needs of people first.”
For more than 110 years, Oticon has been a partner to hearing care practitioners and a champion of the critical importance of the practitioner-patient relationship. Oticon believes that this personalised approach benefits patients, building trust and confidence, optimising hearing solution benefits and creating patient satisfaction.
In 2007, Oticon was the first manufacturer to state that the company would supply its products only to distributors who directly fit and sell hearing solutions to end-users through face-to-face, in-person consultations.
“Together with our hearing care partners, we look forward to continuing to meet the user expectations for the next 110 years,” states Lauritsen. “And in doing this, we will expand the frontiers of modern hearing care and remain true to Hans Demant’s legacy of improving the lives of people with hearing loss.” Vision Care is the proud sole distributers of Oticon hearing aids in Sri Lanka and has taken our country’s hearing care in a new direction. Together with Oticon their vision is to create a nation where being hearing impaired does not limit a person to communicate freely, interact naturally and participate actively to achieve their full potential.
