  • SLCP partners Unilever to open Lactation Management Centres to promote breastfeeding
Under the Pears Safe Hands Initiative, Pears, Sri Lanka’s oldest baby care brand, in partnership with the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians (SLCP), declared open two new Lactation Management Centres in the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital and Akkaraipattu Base Hospital last week. These centres will help to raise awareness on the importance of breastfeeding and promote exclusive breast feeding among new mothers, in line with the brand’s commitment to helping Lankan mothers raise healthy and happy babies. The Lactation Mana-gement Centres will share knowledge and know-how with new mothers to promote breastfeeding, ensuring that babies get the best possible nutrition during early infancy. Mothers will also have access to useful techniques on proper breastfeeding and counselling and treatment for feeding problems. This in turn will help promote a healthy and happy childhood and enhance learning and development. The project was launched in 2013 with inaugural centres opened in Homagama and Karawanella hospitals. Several such centres around the island are scheduled to be opened under the guidance of the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians and Pears.
