President Maithripala Sirisena participated as the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the International Conference on Dengue and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever 2016, held at the BMICH on 24 February.
The International Conference on Dengue and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever 2016 is being held from 24-26 February 2016 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo under the “Dengue: To Stem the Tide”. The technical session of the three-day conference will be held today and tomorrow.
This international conference will bring together renowned scientists, clinicians, researchers and scholars with a common interest and concern in the global dengue situation, and will provide an opportunity to professionals in the field of health and allied health sciences to share latest research findings, build new relationships and to discuss dengue and its management, prevention and control strategies.
The conference is organised by the Epidemiology Unit of Sri Lanka Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Centre for Global Health Research at the University of Umeå, Sweden with its 14 partners from Europe, Asia and South America and the Partnership for Dengue Control (PDC) of the Fondation Mérieux (FMx), France.
Ministers Faiszer Mustapha, State Minister Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Health Deputy Minister Fizal Kasim, Mayor of Colombo, A.J.M. Muzammil, Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala, staff of the Ministry of Health, doctors representing foreign countries and others participated in the inaugural session.
